WHY I BECAME A NEUROSURGEON

Neurosurgery is one of the most demanding fields in medicine with a training period that can extend beyond 16 years. For Dr. Amores, two encounters early in his career drew him to neurosurgery. The first was personal, when as a Surgical Resident, he witnessed a relative having a siezure and the closest neurosurgeon was hours away. As his relative convalesced, Dr. Amores recognized the community needed a neurosurgeon at the local hospital. The second encounter also happened early in his medical career when Dr. Amores studied under Dr. James Kernohan. During this time, Dr.Kernohan confirmed to Dr. Amores that he had those qualities to be in this demanding field, and with his encouragement, Dr. Amores pursued neurosurgery.
